8

Tonight I went out with Letitia and her family to watch a play at Bangsar Actors' Studio. Quite obviously, the play was called '8'. Yes, that's the FULL name....'8'

The play was about 8 different ppl from 8 different places and basically it was just showing 8 different situations and thoughts on life. So it was 8 seperate short sketches:

1st (lady):
She talked abt this funeral and how everyones' schedule was messed up and all. She also talked abt all the burning of the paper money, the traditions and so on. And how some ppl were not serious and laughing etc.
Excerpt:
"and as i walked away from the funeral, no one called my name. I was the one who died" *lights off*

2nd (lady):
She acted a chinese lady abt to get married to an indian. They acted out the different actions of different ppl, eg: mom, blind dad, fren, gossiper
Excerpt:
Dad: "now remember dear, if he doesn't treat u well, u'll"
Dad and Lady together: "kick his balls, pack ur bags and come back here"
Dad: "or else, u can bring him back here and"
Dad and Lady together: "we'll kick his balls together"

3rd (lady):
She acted otu an animal, most likely a dog that goes through: being bought in a store, being neglected, being a stray, being trained, being a stray, being played with by kids till death. It was really a sad story.
Excerpt: "what am i? Animal."

4th (man):
He talked abt his family where everyone suicides. He talks about each an every death and how it came to be. Very funny actually how he did it :p
Excerpt: "he wudn't shut up, so we shot him"

5th (lady):
Indian acting as a Malay lady, writing a letter to her mother. About her arranged marridge where she is not allowed to talk to anyone or go out and is sometimes beaten. Very sad, very sad, she cries in the end - real tears.
Excerpt: "mamalah yang menjatuhkan hidup ini padaku"

6th (lady):
Indian lady acting out how the world's male chauvinistic. And how she herself is a feminist.
Excerpt: "Just think where wud u be without one (woman)?"

7th (guai lo man):
This was the best! He kinda like a comedian thing where he talked abt his life in malaysia as a 'local foreigner'
Excerpt: "So nowadays, u know what i like the most? To go down to Petaling Street and watch the other foreigners get lost"

8th (man):
This one sucked...no more to say

All in all i think it was all mediocre. But u have to respect them for the script and the practicing and all =) wasn't a complete waste of time ^^
