Band Concert

After enduring michelle's bugging (magazine editor) for several days i finally decided to finish this tonight:

Btw...the concert was on the 18th of February....which explains why michelle was bugging me so badly

An Evening Of Music

A wave of clapping rushed through the entire hall as the whole audience started standing up, as if all bewitched by a spell. The soft whispers quickly progressed to a demanding chant reverberating the walls of the hall shaking its very foundation – “Encore! Encore! Encore!”

The band concert “An Evening of Music” was nothing short of spectacular. Once again the CHS Band has been successful, proving themselves master musicians, not only in flawless formation on a field, but in the professional stratum of concert music.

The band’s performance varied, from classic favourites, to modern pieces. There were times, when the listeners could feel the susurrations of the woodwinds playfully tugging at their feelings, or the bravado of the drums beating in tune with their hearts. Nothing played by the band was short of professional panache.

Speaking of professionals, the bands performance was also accompanied by a respected Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Musician, a Canadian euphonium soloist, Kevin Thompson. Kevin and the Band’s music met in perfect harmony, to feast the audience with numbers such as “Rhapsody for Euphonium”.

However, Kevin was not the only contributor to the night’s performance. All the way from Singapore, our twinned school St. Joseph’s Institution, also gave an independent performance. With the melodious sounds of the bagpipes and the incessant beat of the traditional Scottish drums, closing one’s eyes, one could clearly picture the ever flowing grasslands of the Scottish plains.

“An Evening of Music” was not just instrumental. Our award winning school choir was also sure to be at the scene. With voices of angels, the school choir added depth and feeling to several numbers, increasing their impact to the listeners delight, leaving the lingering cry of nightingales.

The entire performance only ended after several encores by the band. At last the roaring clapping of the crowd was only overpowered by the audience’s excited chattering regarding the band’s amazing performance.
